Contract Types
To meet the varied needs of our producers and consumers, we offer a range of contract types and Incoterm transaction options. For more details, please refer to the specific contract types available.
Deferred Price Buy No Advance
The delivery period/month and the appropriate delivered basis or premium are agreed upon. The final pricing will be set at any date in the future, against the agreed SAFEX Futures month, but must be completed before the expiration of that futures date.
Deferred Price Buy With Advance
Similar to the Deferred Price Buy No Advance, but includes an advance payment. The advance is calculated as a percentage of the SAFEX Futures month price minus the delivered basis. The producer is responsible for maintaining the variation margin if the SAFEX Futures month price falls close to or below the advance amount.
Fixed Basis
The delivery period/month, delivery point, and the delivered basis or premium are agreed upon. Final pricing is done at any date in the future, against the agreed SAFEX Futures month, but must be completed before the expiration of that SAFEX Futures month.
Pre-Season Buy (Future Price)
Pricing is set for delivery within the agreed time period based on the SAFEX Futures month (typically during the harvest period). The delivered basis and point of delivery can be finalized at a later date before delivery begins, which then effectively changes the contract to a Cash Buy contract.
Consumer Sale Execution
A hedge book is created based on the Consumer's monthly consumption needs. This involves taking up buy positions on SAFEX, which may include futures buy positions, options strategies, or a combination of both. The Consumer is then required to realize these positions by taking physical delivery of grain as agreed, based on the delivered basis.
Cash Sale
The parties agree on the delivery period/month, delivery point, and the appropriate delivered basis or premium. Pricing is set against the agreed SAFEX Futures month.
Cash Buy
The price is fixed on the day the contract terms are agreed upon. This price is set for delivery within the agreed time period and is based on the relevant SAFEX Futures month.
